Home Made Fajita Seasoning


Currently I would call myself a purist when talking about food.  I am trying to eat less processed and more natural foods, and cooking from scratch a little more.  I love my food to have a lot of flavor, but most pre-made seasonings have a lot of fillers and preservatives in them to give them a longer shelf life.  So I thought I should try to make my own, and it is pretty delicious!  Also, I can’t find any good fajita seasoning mix here in Ireland.  I usually make about 3 recipes at a time so I don’t have to do it every time we want fajitas.  So here is the recipe for the seasoning (Makes about 3 batches):

1 Tbsp paprika

3/4 Tbsp salt

1/2 Tbsp chili powder

1/2 Tbsp black pepper

1/2 Tbsp garlic powder

1/2 Tbsp sugar

1/4 Tbsp onion powder

1/2 tsp cumin

Mix all ingredients together, store in airtight container until use.


For the fajitas you will need:

1/3 of your seasoning mix you just made

4 large flour tortillas

1 Tbsp olive oil

1/2 onion, chopped in strips

1 red pepper, chopped in strips

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 avocado

salsa or sour cream (optional)

Saute 1/2 onion and 1 red pepper in 1Tbsp olive oil until desired crispness is achieved (about 5-10 minutes).  Move to a bowl and keep warm.


Cut 2-3 chicken breasts into strips and rub 2-3 them with the fajita seasoning, and cook in the same skillet. Cook until no longer pink in the middle, about 10 minutes.


Add chicken and sauteed vegetables in a flour tortilla (12″) or 2 small (6″) tortillas.  Top each 12″ tortilla with 1/4 cup cheese, 1/4 avocado, and salsa or sour cream.  Enjoy your 30 minute meal!

Nutrition Info per serving (serves 4):  Calories: 425, Total Fat: 19 g, Total Carbs: 24 g, Dietary Fiber: 4.5 g, Protein: 38 grams.

Nutrition info doesn’t include salsa or sour cream, but does include avocado, cheese, tortilla, chicken and vegetables.
